992.2

I have come across a few articles / spy shots / videos of the potential 992 in prototype form . Although this video hints at base.. S and GTS all returning to NA status others only pose the idea of just a base limited car that's NA . If true it c contradicts the original idea of the 8 speed developed for a hybrid .

I have mixed feelings on both . Theres no way Porsche will put a Cayman Gt4 engine in a 992 so an NA would have to be either something new or a detuned Gt3 engine . If driven alongside a GTS on the street it really takes a wide open road to make a Gt3 feel faster . The short sprints lean on the GTS making it the better all around car. A hybrid would be met with huge criticism but one strength would be instant throttle response. All those future Carwow vids would show a Turbo S destroying the Tesla .

The obsession with NA engines clearly is the wailing flat 6 sound and precision. It takes a lot of money (in a Gt3 ) to not be much faster than a Carrera S on the street. It now way will be the Gt3 of today .

Visually the rear deckled is beautiful IMO and the front fascia looked cleaned up.

Of course I could ponder the unimaginable . That would be one variant in NA form on top of the GT cars , several remaining in turbo form , and several introducing hybrids . As if its not hard enough with all the variants and long options lists. A larger engine selection choice could become the new thing in my wishful mind .

Thoughts ? PS. They all say "2024" but I am thinking 25.

Not a fan of the exterior updates at all but this may change when actually released.

Call me bias.. haha, but I really like the standard front end of my S. I think it looks really modern.

I love the way our '23 992 looks. Seamlessly Sexy AF!

The new 992.2 is looking bulky in the front. The turn signals?? Idk! And the back looks humped (lack of a better word) in more. Just my opinion though.

It looks like the front has less plastic. The rear looks a lot like the Gt3 touring ., That is especially the case when they bring the tail pipes closer together similar to the GT car. 991.2 had them a little more spread.

If rumors of NA engine are true and 992.2 release doesn’t come with significant price increase, seems like 992.1 values could get whacked.

The new car would have to be faster and even the Gt3 is not that fast . The street times are near identical . The track times pit the Gt3 as the winner but they ran the GTS on GY tires (instead of cup tires) Even the driver commented

I think they could do something like a base trim and drag all the NA loyalists into that entry level as they bump up the rest This article discusses it . 2024 Porsche 911 gets mild facelift, maybe new base engine

That would definitely make for some happy NA fans! Me included.

Every new gen 911 beats the previous in performance. That means the 992.2 will need more power or less weight. None of the test mules have shrunk in size so significant weight reduction is unlikely. A hybrid is the most likely solution to boost power and maintain emissions. The new hybrid friendly PDK design already points to that solution. The only question in my mind is what ICE is mated with the hybrid drivetrain.

My best case scenario would be a high revving NA flat 6 with a lightweight hybrid system to improve low end torque. I can already hear it. 😄 My worst case scenario would be the introduction of a 4 cylinder on the hybrid 992.2 (like the base 718 Cayman 😢). I’ll keep my .1 for a looong time if that happens.

Time will tell….

Shiiiii..whatever the case maybe, the 992.1 is a staple. Looks so beautiful. Everything just flows.

Even with the less plastic up front on the .2 I still believe the .2 front and back are a no go for me.

Will be keeping my 992 for a long, long time...IA!

Thryb probably could produce a base car which is faster than the current base but slower than the Gt cars . If priced above the current base . They won't do a 4 cylinder . It failed miserably with the 718.

Why are the “spy shots” always so clear and always on a snowy road! The driver even waved to the person taking the pictures.

I just figure Germany is cold and the test in the winter for the following year . August I believe they have off .

Sounds logical!
It sounds normally aspirated . I like the deck lid . As we all know . Porsche figures out a way to keep us glued . I figure late 2024 as a 25 model . It will be a year wait just like it was with this one . Crazy times !!!

I like the rear view too, including the placement of the exhaust. The front needs some work. The grills are too busy with horizontal and vertical slats.

A high revving NA engine with the low end torque from the hybrid system is the perfect combination! Would that configuration allow a manual transmission? I don’t know of any electric cars with a clutch.

Wait and see , Look how long this one took.

No clutch on an EV for sure but shouldn't a "Mild Hybrid" be able to have a manual? Please say yes. 😅
