Any issues leaving the trunk open while on the trickle charger? I have searched on a few different forums and not gotten a definite answer. I wired mine on my C2 directly to the battery. Not one of the auxiliary posts, but directly to each battery terminal. It’s great, but I’m getting tired of getting on the ground to plug it in every time. I have a 992 GTS coming in next month and I plan to hardwire it but to leave the pigtail in the trunk compartment. My plan is to leave the trunk open and just plug it in. I noticed the trunk light turns off after a while, so I am assuming it should be safe.

I did not have great luck with the Porsche lithium-ion charger. Even hardwired to the battery it would shut off after a few days. I’ve had a C-tek Li charger on it for over a month and zero issues. It works like a champ. I then put the Porsche Li one on an AGM battery on my 86 Targa and it’s worked perfect 🤷‍♂️

FYI, the facility where I store my 992 actually makes sure that the frunk stays open during the 5-6 months it stays on their trickle charger. Just in case.

I did check on my baby once in a while during that long hibernation and my app confirmed an open frunk during the whole winter.

That is very reassuring. Thank you for the reply. I’ll report back once. It’s all set up.

Congrats on the 992 GTS. I also migrated from the Porsche O Mat to the CTEK. Much better. Head's up. CTEK corporate support told me not to hardwire to the negative battery terminal if you have a lithium battery with BMS (RAS). Find a ground. Several have utilized the passenger shock housing. Lucky there is a positive accessory battery terminal. Just needs a M6 nut. CTEK corporate support is 1-888-880-0684 in case you want to discuss. Still need to hardwire. Running alligator clips now.

Thank you for the tip. I’ll send you over some photos when I get mine wired up. My car supposed to arrive to the dealer in Orlando the Saturday before Father’s Day. Fingers crossed!

2020 911S. Battery will be dead if not run for 4 to 5 days. All the engine warning lights will be lit. I have 15,000 miles at its 3 year anniversary. By the way, you pop the lid to reach the battery if dead by connecting the positive jumper to the red receiver in the fuse box in the driver footbox and the negative to the car chassis. Difficult to get a good connection; the chassis is coated thus retarding negative and the positive is finicky in the fuse box; takes time, patience and jiggering. Once started the battery recharged to 14.7 volts with about 30-40 of driving normally. At the dealer the vehicle went through full electrical diagnostic and they performed a deep battery charge all at no cost and a free Uber lift to and from. About a week or so later, the car sat idle for 3-5 days and it was dead again. I painfully popped the lid and started it with a big Noco; turned over immediately. I drove it and reached 14.7 volts and then put it on a Noco trickle and it took 6 hours to 75% and 14 hours to be 100%. I have now left it off the trickle for 4 full days and about to see if it will start on its own battery power. There is some truth I believe in exercising the Lithium type battery that the 2020 911S is equipped with. Effectively if the battery is not "trained" in its cycling with at least 6,000 miles per year it tends to "learn" a very shallow charge hold. I have generally left this vehicle many times for a week or more with no use and not trickling. I believe if it was trickled from the beginning of ownership the issue I have now at 3 years in age would likely have not resulted. It is the only vehicle of my many vehicles that I didn't trickle. That was a mistake.

Thanks for your post and pictures. I will be keeping my 992 GTS outside all seasons, regularly not driving for a month at a time. Looks like I need to keep it wired to a CTEC. Although you say you leave the frunk unlatched without issue, I dont think I can do that without letting rain in. From your pictures , seeing the red wires exiting your frunk, it looks like you can close the frunk with the rubber seals allowing the allowing the CTEK wiring to exit with the frunck fully closed, is that the case? Regards, Tim

My car doesn’t stay outside and I run charger cable through area by windshield wipers with funk completely closed. No issues
^^^^^Same^^^^^

This also allows easy access to the battery via the charging cable in case it drains and needs to be woken up. It’s much easier than using the terminals in the fuse box As suggested in the owner’s manual.

Dear 992 people

Today I also was washing my 992 for maybe 1hour and 30 minutes, off course key was turned off, maybe occasional opening of trunk room. After the wash, the car does not start and I had to call road service to charge the battery, however the road service guy said the battery had 12 Volts and not so bad condition because I actually got new one 2 month ago. I called Porsche dealer and they said I need to run the car for at least 1hour to charge. I regularly drive my car to the work for 30 minutes a day and use cetek everyday. I think the new 992 use electricity every minutes to run computer compared to 991. My old 991 did not have this kind of trouble. So I think Porsche should come out with better solution.
I have a 2022 Turbo S I bought new and drive it or start it once a week Had it 20 months
Never trickle charge it
No issues

Have had the same issue in last few weeks (usually late a night / early morning) the car alarm goes off and I get the "your car is being stolen" call - apparently a low battery triggers the alarm further exacerbating the problem. Have bump started it now three times and have a lithium charger (maintainer) but now don't have confidence in the car to travel away or leave at the airport without a battery booster in the cabin (which seems like a poor option - and the embarrassment of the alarm going off until battery shuts off - can't stop alarm until the battery is on maintainer or the car is bumped - makes me super popular with the neighbours.................
Maintainer works perfectly plugged in outside - with maintainer in the frunk and extension cable fed through the bonnet near the windscreen wipers - can fully shut the bonnet and keep the weather out.
992 2019 - would be useful to know if a new battery sorts the problem or am I destined to have to use a maintainer for the rest of my ownership (or to be honest will just get rid and have a bad taste in my mouth).
Am in the UK - interested to know if a new battery fixes this and how much £ - seems to be different views on both
