992 c4s daily driver build

1959 Views 33 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  DrB477
Background currently own a 997.2 C4S cab PDK and a 2018 Macan GTS (and an Escalade ESV). Looking to trade in the 997.2 for a new 992. Had originally planned to buy a used 992.1 when the 992.2s came out at a discount but then all hell broke loose in the world and long story short I have a June 2023 allocation for a new C4S cab. I realize the 4 & cab are a somewhat odd combo but I really enjoy the top down in good weather and then having the AWD for the bad weather so it works for me. I do use winter tires/wheels from roughly Thanksgiving to Easter.

This isn't literally a daily driver as I take one of the SUVs when I have SUV appropriate errands to run before or after work & I also drive them when I expect salt to be on the road but I drive it most days 35-50 miles round trip depending on the route. Financially I make enough money I can buy what I want but I haven't been making it long enough to be financially independent... so cost isn't a HUGE factor but its not irrelevant either.

Working build: PPA1ZWD1

Points of contention:

Seats
1) Currently selected sport-tex with chalk stitching and chalk seat belts. It's a little monochrome but the seat belts and different pattern break it up some. Been kind of obsessed with fabric center seats and this option doesn't break the bank. Thinking of adding the white tach + white SC dial but almost $1k between the two seems like a lot to ask for these seemingly minor changes. Can't get this with the 14 ways so looking at paying up for 18 ways.

2) Either the black/beige or slate grey/chalk two tone leather interior with deviated seat centers using the darker color. I'd be able to get the premium package with this one which offers a little savings, don't need to pay separately for the seat belts, and would probably spec the 14 way seats rather than 18 way.

3) Heritage tan/pepita. I really love this look but its another ~$10k and to be honest I showed it to a few friends and 2/3 of my children (10 and 9 yo so whatever their opinion is worth) and none of them really liked it even without knowing how much more $$$ it was.

Exterior
Blue roof or black roof (with Gentian Blue exterior)?

Performance
Sport Chrono only vs Sport Package. I'm pretty sure a GTS would be too stiff for my liking as a DD but I'm not sure about the SPASM on the S as it looks to be about halfway between the GTS and regular PASM. Sports exhaust I could take or leave it, would use it sometimes but probably leave it off most of the time. Have it on the Macan GTS and I'll turn it on if I remember and I feel like I'm not in a place where it's going to annoy people. My 997.2 doesn't have PSE or SPASM which hasn't bothered me at all but may be a case of I don't know what I'm missing? Going to try to drive a S with SPASM.

Interior
I think I'm fine with the basic interior trim, but is this maybe not the place to cut corners?

I am not at my computer. I looked at your build. I will need time. I just wanted to post a picture of the tan /Pepito heritage package that you mentioned. A friend of mine has it and absolutely loves it. I’ve seen it on GT silver cab on rennlist and it does look quite classic. . I like the blue roof over the black. I will go over the more details when I have time he’s a parting photo. Even though it’s an interior, I myself would not pick it is quite elegant..

That would look pretty good on gentian . I did look at the rest of your build, and will get back to this much later today

Welcome to the Forum @DrB477 and congrats on your allocation! Did you wait long between order and allocation confirmation? Just curious to see if Porsche is catching up after "all hell broke loose" with the supply chain, Covid, war and sinking ship issues. 😩

I will let @yrralis1 and others give more expert advice on performance options since I've limited myself to very few on my 992 S cab. If I had the guts to drive the 911 in winter in Montreal, I would've chosen the 4S cab just like you. The best of both worlds.

We share the love of Gentian Blue and I love the Sport-tex with chalk stitching in your build. I "bravely" went with 2 tone slate-grey/chalk leather interior and even picked the blue top😅 (see pics). It's all personal preference but I thought the deviated seat centers made it too "busy" with the 2 tone package. Lots of pics on RL. The Heritage tan is very "elegant" but I personally wouldn't add 10K. And the basic interior trim is beautiful on the 992. No need to replace or upgrade IMO.

I know it's for the show and doesn't add any performance to the car but I really like that PSE (and no neighbour has complained yet 😅). Didn't take SPASM because I was worried about the shorter suspension travel and potential comfort loss. Probably the only one on this Forum! LOL! Finally, I have to mention the great MT on the 992. Sure I can't make you change your mind? LOL!

Get what YOU want and don't make the mistake to spec for the next guy!

Have fun and don't forget to share your pics next June

I had asked about allocations, adm, deposits and wait times last April when i was getting service done. I was told no ADM, no deposit, and probably a 3ish year wait for a 4s cab (said i’d be good with a regular turbo or gts also). This was right after the time the boat caught on fire a few weeks prior. I got the allocation offered last week for June build and a confirmation email yesterday. i didn’t look at other dealers.

I took time and went over all the details . It may take you time to digest price . None of these cars are cheap. If you think this car that I built sucks then I will say no more . Let me address each point .

1) I left most of your interior . I personally feel that a Cab ought to have a cabin like a boulevard cruiser . I dislike sport tex fir only one reason . In the heat and humidity of Miami I nearly passed out test driving a 718 Boxster years ago . In coupe like a Carrera T at least there is AC but with the top down it was brutal . Race tex is cooler than leather . Sport Tex is like an oven compared to both . I would reconsider the Heritage package . Janko Lind did a review of a Turbo coupe in Gentian with beige heritage . They are all nice on. a cab .

2) The one thing I did fix in the interior are the inlays . You left them with the cheap plastic . I put carbon fiber .

3) I don't like black or red on Gentian . That automatically changed your roof to blue .

4) You put sport chrono . Good move !! I would not own a Porsche without PASM . Suspension is critical (especially in a Cab ) . I put the sport package

5) I mentioned that I dont like red. on Gentian . Its a simple reason . They are Superman's colors just like yellow and red are McDonalds .
I put PCCB on brakes . They are better , no dust , no fade , better in rain , and way better looking on Gentian (especially with the wheels you picked .. my favorite choice on Gentian too) .

6) I also put the exclusive design tail lights and took out the red .

7) too many words on the rear designation . Its like reading a novel . changed it to "911 .

Remember .. if you think it sucks ... I go silent . ;)

Its not bad the way you built it butat this price and timeline I feel it ought to be special . IMO this can become the best 4S Cab . Its all on you to decide.

... and with the heritage .. In m my opinion .. this is really serious !! 💪

Seat inserts are sweet!
So is the price😳
GTS territory
Just enjoy it, can’t take it with you is the saying on here!

Right you are Bobby but the poor Dr has to feed his kids (and dress them and send them to college one day, etc)! :p Money was not "irrelevant" to him. But to us it is! LOL!
Thanks for the input yrralis1. I don't think I can justify the PCCB cost... i do like the yellow though esp with the exclusive design taillights. As for the taillights, I've gone back and forth between the red and clear. I like the clear, but the "free" red doesn't bother me and goes with the rear deflectors (which stay red regardless of options) and the red calipers.

Is sport-tex really that hot? Almost all the comments I've read have it as cooler than leather (and its just the seat inserts, not the entire cabin). I'm in Pittsburgh not Miami, so the summers aren't generally insanely hot.

Especially if you start to add things like the 18 way leather seat backs (the standard plastic isn't the greatest), the colored tach/chrono, and premium inlays the heritage premium over sport-tex or full leather drops to more like $5-6k which isn't THAT bad (I guess). Ballpark math 1.5 hrs driving a day x work like 47 weeks a year x 5 days a week x 10 years planning on having the car come out to be like ~3500 hrs. I think I could justify the $1.50-$2 an hour.

Nice build! If you’re keeping the car for 10 years it’s definitely worth getting a few extra aesthetic upgrades. You’ll appreciate them every time you get in it, especially in a cab where they’re much more visible. If it’s a shorter term ownership I’d say otherwise.

Still thinking about the concept of option. In my case, the options I chose might not be attractive to a potential private buyer “true enthusiast” i.e. awd, sunroof, front lift (all heavy options) and lack of pccb. But to someone who likes the comfort and safety options it might be the opposite.

That is exactly how I feel . I have owned several poverty spec cars . The difference is that when a person has to go through the drama of ordering and waiting through an obstacle course (sometimes for many months) price dynamics change .

I have 3 Porsches . 2 have leather and one race tex. The race tex is the coolest . Leather I get stuck to in July before the vent even turns on . I thought sport tex might be an interesting idea once . I drove a Boxster S with it in the summer and it was brutal . It was evening (not even daytime heat ) . A coupe at least has less exposure . I would get the leather in the C4S but I left your interior .

Heritage package is a whole different level . It makes the car a real boulevard cruiser .

I accidentally sent that car to myself before I posted it and it included a friend of mine . He opened it up and said "Wow ! Nice !" It was 530 AM (430 in Chicago ) . You will get compliments !!

Congratulations! My thoughts below and as mentioned above in some of the threads.

GB (great color) and consider interior mojave beige (black dash). I would do both the Premium & Sports Package (the launch control seems very cool).

No ADM is a gift. Enjoy.
GB with blue top and Heritage whoa baby!
