Yes, the luxury tax is only on new vehicles. It seems to be having the effect of pushing up used prices (demand shifting from new to used?) - not a bad thing if you've got a trade-in.

I live in BC, which has its own lux tax. The federal lux tax is calculated on top of that. 🙄🤷‍♂️

Back to the OP - allocations can be had. I probably had a bit of luck, though. The bad news - my SA told me their dealership was getting only 3 911 allocations for the entire first quarter of 2023, seems Porsche is expecting supply chain issues to continue and possibly to add factory slowdowns due to energy shortage.

I’m hearing the exact same thing. Possibly from the same person.

This whole process of trying to beg to buy a car is getting tedious. Without a trade, dealerships aren’t very interested in giving you an allocation.

Didn't know BC had it's own lux tax. Just looked it up and it's 20% over 150K!!!!

Thats a reason for more availability . It was hard enough seeing Porsche raise the price in 23 but add a few other hurdles plus the drama of ordering and waiting and some of that new car attractiveness simmers .

I am impressed and proud to see a fellow canadian drive his 911 up there in the Artic! (y) And if I remember correctly a GB convertible too (good taste)!!! Considering the supply chain issues and average waiting time for an allocation, you should put your name on the Dakar waiting list now...before those glaciers melt! 😅 Greetings to all the people in Yellowknife.

I find myself strangely attracted to the Dakar 911, too. Don't really need the extra clearance in the city, but it would definitely be useful driving to Vancouver or Calgary in the winter. Or exploring forestry roads. Or dirt tracks in the desert. Or....

I put in an order for a 4GTS in Feb 2022, as a first-time Porsche buyer. Got an allocation in July, and while the build got pushed back a couple of times, it is now in production. I expect to take delivery February. No ADM, just MSRP. But it is a “nicely-optioned” build according to the dealer…
Woww that is cool to get such a fast allocation (y) no news after almost 12 months here in Ottawa

Pay attention Bobby, go back a few posts and read both of mine. On the second I even put a link to a Fraser Institute article on the subject. Remember Canada is a « socialist » country! 🤪 But it’s not funny any more. 😡
