my decision for the s was easy because I wanted a manual transmission. You’ll make the right choice.
I am approaching my 50th birthday so I decided to finally pull the trigger on a Porsche 911. I always wanted a Cab so that's what I'm going with. My basic question is whether it is worth paying more for a Carrera S over the base Carrera? Of course I would love the extra power, but don't know when or how often I would even need it.
Thanks for any insights. Btw, I think I'm going with the GT Silver with black top. Also I think I must get the Sports Chrono package right?![]()
That’s a long time to wait for a car but it may be worse with supply chain than we ever though. So many people still not wanting to work or left work doesn’t make it any better. I would think a deposit would be mandatory now…anyone ask you for one? My deposit on my 911 was only $2,500.I was told a year if I put a deposit for a Macan. My salesman tends to round up so we probably would be less. I have al not dared to discuss in 911 because I just bought one but when I did I was simply told put a deposit . The GTS was not even announced yet. I considered a Touring and I would’ve been number 46 on the list. I gave both cars thought. I even thought about keeping my car and not going through with this. I’m glad I did but I don’t know if I’m ready for a second round with a Macan. Never in my life did I follow boats in the ocean and wonder if I was going to get the slot or have somebody try and take it away from me. I am so glad my dealership came through. They made a lifetime customer from me
Smart move..running errands this am..oh yeah!I’m thinking of our new member @DoctorFreeze. Maybe he will get his base model a little faster but the waiting period for a 911 seems to be 2-3 years now!!! 😏 Wonder what his dealer told him.
Macan and Cayenne allocations are easier to get. My SA recently said less than a year. After the 911 saga, I decided to keep my Macan S MY17 a little longer. Since I split my mileage on 2 cars during the year, the Macan only has 37K miles on it and runs perfectly. The next one will probably be electric. 😱
Why didn’t I think of that!Nice! I go get my beer ONE bottle at a time now! 🤪🤣
ABSOLUTELY frigging all day long on sport exhaust!!!!That is a beautiful car. Even though I can't afford an S for my "entry-level" Porsche 911, I think my base cab will look just as good. Oh, I'm also seriously considering a change of color from GT Silver to Gentian Metallic Blue. Your photo has reinforced my potential change. I do have one question for everyone, should I spring for the Sports Exhaust package or not?? It's another $3k! 😭
Plus the car looks awesome in every color so another good choice in Blue.ABSOLUTELY frigging all day long on sport exhaust!!!!
No worries…we will find the body.I think I'm going to do it. However, if you don't see me here later it means my wife killed me.
OAY…owners against yellow!PSE for sure. As for color, there is no right or wrong answer, it's a very personnal choice. Now I feel some responsability in your color change! LOL! 😅
I needed a change from the classic colors. Gentian is a chameleon colour with tons of character. It's part of the charm and why I love it. I've written on this Forum that GB seems to have 50 shades of blue, going from a royal blue to a darker blue and even looks purply in some sorts of lights (that scares a lot of people)! Well, almost all dark blues will show some amount of purple under certain lighting conditions, especially artificial light. I don't mind the purple tones and they aren't that noticeable in regular, daily life. The gentian is also less common. I went even further by picking the light grey interior. LOL!
You will find tons of pics of Gentian on RL and the web (I have my unveiling pics on another thread "Eagle has landed"). Have fun and maybe ask your SA to give you a shout when he has one at the dealership so you can see it "in person".
But we all agree that the 911 looks great in any color(but the jury is still out on Racing Yellow
).
Getting ready to swim here in PA so cheers to you!« Up North » July 1st is Canada Day, so RED AND WHITE are in order today! Cheers!
I just checked on the wait for a 718 and it’s 1.5 years.A year sounds very very good right now. The problem is that every 911 model has its own queue and it will all depend on what your dealer gets. You can be next in line for a base 992 cab but if the dealer gets some S, GTS, Turbo or even base coupe allocations but no base cab slots, the wait continues. Fingers crossed that you get your allocation ASAP. 🤞
I didn’t ask about the 911 but I can see what I can find out.Bobby, did you ask for the 911? Either case, I honestly think it’s a wait and see game. With production still severely limited, dealers will not be getting the total number of allocations they expect. So, none of them really know anything. Mine has decided not to give any timeline at all instead of promising something he doesn’t control.
Seems that way Freeze. This must be the year that more GenX'ers are pulling the trigger and finally rewarding ourselves.
Doc, that’s a beautiful thing! Order every option that makes sense or anything that fits under the tree!My new friends... I'm happy to report that I heard from my SA today and they have an allocation ("commission number") for my Porsche 911 C2 Cab! For those curious, it took about 2.5 months from my $2.5k downpayment to get a spot in line to this great day. Now, the hard part... deciding on my specs before the "freeze date" of November 1. At least the journey has started and could possibly have delivery by the end of the year. That would be the best Christmas present ever.
