Have you driven both a 992 Carrera S and GTS?

I may have an opportunity to trade my C2S allocation for a GTS but I”m not sure which I’d prefer. I haven’t had an opportunity to drive a 992 GTS which makes it difficult so I”m going to have to decide based on online reviews and hopefully some input from you guys.

If anyone has driven both I’d like to hear your thoughts. Is the GTS noticeably better on the street for performance? Or is the GTS louder and rougher making it less attractive as a daily driver? Why did you choose one over the other?

Harry’s garage is one of the online reviewers that’s reported on both in detail and there’s a couple interesting points. In the S review he is critical of he noise and firm ride. In a later GTS review on the same roads, he doesn’t bring up any of these as issues, although he did test a GT3 in between and that may have recalibrated his tolerance levels.

There are numerous other reviewers that praise the GTS such as the Smoking Tire. A couple others suggest it’s too stiff for street driving. After watching a bunch you get tired of hearing “sweet spot”!

I cannot help you here. I wish dealers had demos for people to try. Wicked times for sure. Not sure by when you have to lock and not sure which part of the country you are from (something tells me west coast). If you are on the east side, you are welcome to come to Ottawa, we will go visit Charles and you will be able to conduct your comp. No better way😝. Neither of the two cars will be available until April.
On a more serious note. I have one comment for you to consider. The GTS comes with center lock wheels. If you plan to winter drive it. Then, you either choose 5 bolt wheels, purchase aftermarket center lock wheels (~10k), or flip summers and winter tires on the oem wheels (it will beat the rims up very quickly. Plus, not sure if you can get that size in winters). Also, not sure about the the condition of the roads in your city. The gts will let you know about every road imperfection even in comfort mode.

I drove and owned a 997 S and wished it was the GTS when it arrived to the scene. I did the same with the 991.2 and bought a GTS . From that moment on I was done with the S unless a GTS was not available . Its for that reason I didn't even drive one . You see the differences with the Macan . With the 911 its the same deal. Its still an extremely comfortable street car but when unleashed has near GT potential.

Many of the people buy an S and add the sport package and RAS but just like with the Macan it won't be a GTS .
BTW a GTS can vary tremendously . One early review showed a more comfort optioned Targa and compared it to a lightweight package manual as he drove them back to back . Thats the charm of the GTS . It can be whatever the person wants .

For me it was the GTS VS a Gt3 Touring VS a Gt3 wing VS a Turbo S . The GT wing was the one I have always wanted but to your point of can it be driven daily ... the GTS can !! I have 6900 miles and drive it everywhere !!

One last thing is price . The Carrera S has been produced since 2020 . The GTS is more rare and will command a higher resale desirability . If you are given a chance I would grab it !!! Your car will be sought after .

I spent a year configuring cars !! I can help you ;)

By the way @KM992 - All 992 cars are more stiff than the 991 . Its not in any way uncomfortable stiff . The suspension across the board is improved .

Oh yes you can help!
I found it !! I knew I had watched a review comparison as I was waiting . Notice how he takes the Gt3 right off the table . It really is a race car which I would love to have if I lived across the street from a track . He does not give the S enough credit . Keep in mind the GTS does have Turbo components.(brakes , chassis) and the manual (all 3 are manual . I prefer the PDK for this car) and a power bump. It also has the lightweight option which I love . It filters out street noise but retains exhaust note . It is not so loud that one cant hear music or a conversation . It is just magical !

Does swapping tires (summer/winter) beat up the rims? Even if done by a Porsche service center?

I think so. Even if the installer is very experienced, at one point it is bound to happen. The machine is not forgiving. It happened to me.

Very generous offer! I’m in Alberta so it’d be a long trip, but thanks just the same.

I don’t think this car will see snow, or at least that’s the plan for now. I’ve also been thinking about whether center lock wheels would be in my build. I’m told you can choose to get five bolt wheels on the GTS if you want. The center locks are cool, but they do add another complexity to ownership, especially if you start to get a ways away from a dealership and need help.

Yes you can choose the five lug set up.

To answer your question and to tease Larry a bit! Personally, I just like the Blue 992 better! :p

I hadn’t thought about how my Macan ownership might help with the 911 decision. The difference from the Macan Turbo to the GTS was night and day In terms of handling. Good insight, Larry.

The price difference between a new GTS vs S looks to be about 10%. I agree that you’ll probably get that back and more when it comes time to sell. The used GTS market today certainly supports that notion.

My last sports car was pretty stiff and the streets in town are rough. I still enjoyed driving it so maybe I’m overthinking it? I’ll put some more time into the decision and watch another 40 hours of online videos. 😜

The timing might be the deciding factor as I don’t want another driving season wasted while reading about how much fun you guys are having without me. I know both cars would be awesome and it really comes down to preference. Test drives are the only real way to make a good decision so I’ll keep looking for an opportunity.

These really are first world problems!

Like they say on the car lots…re-sale red and no-sale blue.

I’ll still take the Gentian Blue. You have impeccable taste in colour!
