Just took delivery of my new 992 Targa 4GTS. Amazing car so far. I have a 1988 911 now going on BAT soon. also have a Macan Turbo PP as DD. Slightly over whelmed with whole Lithium battery charging issue. Still trying to set up whole Porsche connect. Also trying to figure out if just using the 12v passenger socket to run Radar may be easier than Hardwire. Glad I found this forum

Welcome to the forum. I was also worried about the battery. My car sat from end of Nov to mid Apr. Initially the trickle was finicky (turned itself off few times) but then it was fine. When I started the car mid Apr the battery was at 13.1v as it should. I use the passenger socket.
Mine is Artic gray with almost every option lol. Are you in boston area?

Do you have the lithium battery? I think I heard you can’t use that socket type charger with lithiums? Love to hardwire a ctek quick connect for whatever I need
My gts came with lithium battery and a Porsche trickle charger in the frunk. It only had the cigarette lighter plug. And it worked just fine for 3.5 months.
Does it say specifically for the lithium batteries? I’ll have to look on porsche or ctek. I have so many chargers at this point for different cars lol

No, I am in ocala Florida. Two comments, the battery charger Porsche supplies has a Lithium mode. Regarding options I think I loaded up with $25,000 worth of options. A little insane. how long after your build did you receive your car at the dealer?

So regarding my build, I was on list at dealership in Maine but also with champion where I ordered my macan turbo pp. was still waiting for build slot for 1.25 years then a slot opened up here near boston for June July delivery. Almost pulled trigger but they wanted 40 k over MSRP and I just couldn’t do it. Then next day I googled gts for sale and at local Mercedes dealership shows a targa 4 gts with only 270 miles traded in. I called and bought at their local associated porsche dealership but traded in after 3 mos for a g wagon and owner staying too fast of car??? Apparently he buys cars from them and trades in after few thousand miles max. This car was not my original color build but I like it more and had every option I wanted except 930 seat package. Plus many other options I wasn’t going to spend money on but love.
It’s worth the wait as it’s amazing. I’ve owned two older 911 and several suv but closest to this was my pana gts which was insane.

Nicely Done! Congratulations! My story on trickle chargers. I purchased a Porsche battery maintainer vs the CTEK thinking I could utilize the 12v passenger socket to trickle charge my 992 4GTS (lithium battery for RAS). There is a connection sequence that others have found successful to prevent the 12 volt socket from shutting down after 20 mins. I have tested every sequence and I still cannot obtain a consistent daily trickle charge via the 12 volt socket. Also, the Porsche battery clamps are not ideal. I have given up on Porsche. I am switching to CTEK (CTEK Lithium US) since they make a hard eyelet connection to the battery and a very nice pigtail connector. CTEK actually makes the Porsche Charger o mat. I spoke to my Porsche service rep and he did not have an issue if I used the CTEK from a warranty perspective. CTEK support phone no is 1-888-880-0684 and they pick up quickly. You may want to consider a CTEK trickle charger with a hard eyelet battery connection and pigtail. Drive Safe and Enjoy!

Hard wire would be the best and most logical option if the cigarette outlet fails. I got the steps for the outlet from RL. They seem to work, can post…..

Most appreciated. That would be great! Thank You. I can compare them to the ones I found on the this site and Rennlist below.........

1) Plug charger in 12 volt socket. (immediately after garage park)
2) Turn ignition key to accessory (key fob on seat). Wait 30-60 secs
3) Plug charger in wall outlet
4) Select Lithium on Porsche Charger and hold the mode button for 10 secs
5) Wait 30-60 secs. Turn off ignition and lock vehicle

The 15 minutes it takes to hard wire it to the battery is foolproof and sounds so much easier.

This is the sequence I have been using for my regular battery and it works perfectly.

This is what I do:

1 plug charger into wall outlet.
2 turn car key to position 1.
3 plug charger to 12v outlet
4 set the charger to lithium mode
5 after about 45sec turn the key off
6 lock the car

In the first three weeks the trickle shut off couple of times. For the rest of winter it worked as it should. Try this and hopefully it works for you

Highly recommend hard wiring CTEK Comfort Connect (I used part #56-629). Takes 10 minutes tops to wire. Eliminates the hassle and uncertainty of using 12 v footwell outlet. While generally easy/pain free, it seems I got a bad cc cable (not alone on that score) and am awaiting a replacement. Lots of info here CTEK battery maintainer - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums
