Meet Dale Miller of Miller Historic Motorcars to present the 1970 Targo Florio Porsche 908/03 driven by Vic Elford. Dale held the position of Managing Director of the Collier Museum (now Revs Institute) in Naples, Florida from 1985 until 1993, served as PCA Historian from 1979 to 1986, was a member of the PCA tech committee until 2002, and currently advises collectors in locating Porsche prototype race cars. Dale is the recognized expert for the 908/03. You will not want to miss this one-on-one opportunity to see and learn about the unique features of this historic race car. This Porsche 908/03 was one of six cars built to compete (four cars to race and two test cars) in the 1970 Targa Florio. Three cars were prepared by Porsche in Gulf livery easily recognized as blue with front panel red arrows. A fourth car drive by Elford/Hans Hermann was also prepared by Porsche for the 'back door' team owned by Louisa Piech (Ferdinand Porsche's sister) and her Salzburg Porsche dealership. The Elford car was different embodying some unique enhancements the Wyer cars lacked. The 360hp flat eight fuel injected engine pushes this 1150 pound race car to some very impressive speeds. Yet its boxy layout made it perfect for the twisty mountain roads of the Targa.
In addition to the 908/03, the 1959 RSK, restored by VMR, will be on display. This 4-cam Carrera powered aluminum bodied homologation Spyder finished second overall at Pike's Peak. This car is part of the collection of cars whose ownership includes the 908/03. Save the date for a historic day with the expert, Dale Miller, and the Porsche race cars that made history. Saturday, February 18 at VMR in Jasper, GA beginning at 10 am just 45 minutes north of I-285 in north Georgia mountains off I-515.
