Rear Wheel Steering or Not Carrera T

Long story short I have a bit until my freeze date to decide on RWS or not. I did a search with only a few comments more about availability than reviews and cannot find anything substantial online. I watched a few videos below from Porsche and others and again I get what they are saying but no real world examples I can wrap my head around

Porsche Explains

Totally Different Cars

Flatsixes explains

Can anyone give some real world handling feel and impressions of with and without similar cars?

I had a 991.2 GTS without RAS . My 992 GTS has RAS . I feel the biggest negative on RAS is not in. how it drives but rather the cost to replace a battery . Non RAS cars come with a standard acid battery . Those with RAS get the lithium Ion battery . A dead battery costs 2500 bucks .

I still bought it on my car. I don't feel that my former car was in any way a bad driving experience but RAS is a nice feature . Janko sums it up nicely where in city the turn radius is great and on any type of curve it is a nice to have feature . I disagreed with him on PDCC though .

There is no wrong choice here ,

I passed on RAS because I personally did not think it was a need for my build and the battery was a deal breaker for me too.

I had the same dilemma and chose to leave it off my build. I wasn’t able to properly drive and compare cars with and without it so had to make a decision based on other people’s comments. My impression is that mere mortal drivers like me won’t notice performance improvements so it wasn’t worth adding another complication to an already complicated car.

I’d like to avoid the lithium battery as well. Unfortunately Canadian cars all seem to get them.

Good move, I wouldn’t know the difference either.

You would in a U turn as well as at high speeds . Steering is really accurate .

I would most likely notice that.

In Canada, I think all 992s have Lithium-Ion batteries. At least since 2022.

This is where I was headed. As a mere mortal I can drive spirited, I can drive fast, I can wail through the mountains on a bike or in my Boxster, but a good driver would be more spirited, faster, and wail harder.

Thank you all for your comments, I'm sure I wouldn't notice and don't need something else to overthink/worry about. Car is amazing and way beyond how I will drive it with almost nothing extra in it.

I'm going to take some manual lessons a month out (been a few years, I can do it, but would like to get some hands on training) and hit the ATL PEC a couple weeks out to get familiar with the car before it arrives.

I know Nick Murray is controversial but if you skip to 33:25 min of this video you will have his opinion on RAS. His track day story is funny and says it all. ;)

I happen to agree with him . However , the idea that it took one year to order and get the car , coupled with the boat that sank, and the delays , I want "the limit" possible (even if I wasn't the driver who might reach it ) . I have the logic that its nice to know that its there . I don't eat all the food on my plate . I won't spend all my money (I hope) before I die . I just like seeing the full plate or the extra savings .. just in case.

I have it on my 992 because I have it on my Audi and had it on my LC500. Makes a big difference in parking lot maneuvering and quick turns. I understand the battery downside. Keep your car on a C-Tek.

I have it and I also have the charger , The problem that I read about wasn't just the expense . During the supply shortage they had trouble getting them . Im am hoping that is resolved . They also die a bit quicker than the acid battery. I still took the risk.

Conrgrats on the car. You will not miss RAS. I did get spec it for my car for driving in the city and autocross. I will share....that recently, I have not heard many good things from Porsche service techs on that $2500 lithium battery. If not a daily driver, that battery must be trickle charged. Enjoy!
