Service flap open

I recently suffered a dead battery in my 2020 911scab. After charging (at the dealership service department) the “service flap open” warning light comes on when the vehicle is initially started. If I open and close the flap the light goes off. The dealership hasn’t a clue but declined to reach out to Porsche. I suspect it’s an electronic or software reset issue but solicit any insight or expertise. Dealership wants it back for a “deep dive”. I just want to drive!

Hi @Rick FM and @KrisDC2, I'm having the same problem here ("service flap open" warning light) and I'm also having trouble finding a solution here. If you know which part needs to be replaced I would be very grateful. 🙏

I’m not sure if this helps, but I am waiting on a wiring harness due to a wire, getting pinched when the rear spoiler goes up and down. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happened to you. At first, they replaced the raised brake light now they have to replace the wiring harness because it got pinched somewhere when it goes up and down.
Hi @BobbyG , thanks so much for your quick response. Your suggestion might make sense.

I took the car to install PPF (paint protection film), and then I noticed the service flap open" warning light was coming on.
To install the PPF they disassemble the break light and some other parts. Perhaps they damaged some wiring during installation.

Do you know more precisely which part/cable will be replaced?

No problem. I’m not sure of a part number but it will take at least 2 weeks for the section of wiring harness I need. (Shipping from Germany) The section I need gets fished through the spoiler and its a 2 hour job. They are gone until Monday but I can try to get a part number for you ASAP. I was told if it gets pinched it will short out and send the fault…hope it helps. If you’re taking it to the dealer just mention this and they might have come across this before. The tech said he ran into it with a 991 but not a 992 but said it should be similar or the same. I’ll get back to you.

so yours gives you the service flap open message every time you start the car?

No, mine was upper brake light warning that turned out to be a pinched wire in the wiring harness. Probably getting pinched when spoiler goes up at 70mph. That is their guess because of the fault so maybe it applies to you???

Paulo, my service department just texted me the part number we were discussing. Not sure if it’s the one you need but it’s a wiring harness coming from the manufacturer for my brake light issue. Part number is: 992971182C. I’m sure the section of harness has multiple wires that might fit your need so good luck!

Paulo, any luck with yours?

Hey @BobbyG, unfortunately my problem seems to be different from yours.
Here the "service flap open" warning light always appears when the car is turned on (start the ignition).
In any way, I appreciate your response, it can help other people.

P, no worries and I hope it gets worked out quickly!
Paulo is the dealer working on your car or what are you doing to fix the problem? I’ve replaced the rear bcm and hood control module with no luck. I wish the OP would chime in with the part number that fixed his issue.
Sorry I didn’t get back.
The service department checked for wiring shorts and latch and found none. This took a long time as they tested multiple electrical lines and required some disassembly of the vehicle for access. The control module for the convertible top was replaced and all has been good.
The seat belt alarm was traced to a short in the seat belt buckle on the driver’s side back seat. This was repaired and all has been good there, also.
I was frustrated by the time it took but satisfied with the outcome and attempts to find and corrected a (hopefully) very unusual problem with the cabriolet controller. I expect that Porsche will share the findings within their network.
Hey @KrisDC2, did you see in the message above that Rick fixed the problem by switching the "control module to the convertible"?

I did a google search and found this part number 992959255G (Porsche Control Unit For Convertible Roof Controls).

I don't know if it's exactly the same part that @Rick FM used.

@KrisDC2, in your diagnoses, did you ever ask them if that part makes sense?

Next week I'm taking the car to the dealer for them to diagnose. Let's see what they say.

I’ve replaced that module with a used one and didn’t fix it. Unless the used one has the same issue. Not sure. Might just buy a new one. The dealer has no idea.

Got it, @KrisDC2 !

Not sure if the part that worked @Rick FM is the same one you replaced and it didn't work and if it's the same one I found (part number 992959255G). Or if they are three different things. I'm confused! 😅

Another question, have you been to an authorized Porsche dealer? If yes, don't dealerships have the "obligation" to diagnose and find the problem?

Starting to get worried here. 😳

Yes I’ve been to the dealer. They will diagnose if I keep paying them.

I’m lucky my wiring harness was still covered under warranty…getting it replaced next week for raised brake light issue.

Wiring harness is in and working fine no faults. Got nervous when “service flap open” lit up when I was leaving but it was actually not closed all the way per the tech…he apologized.

So what did they fix?
