As I've posted already on this Forum, I'm hoping "one day" to put my hands on a 992 S MT cab. In the meantime, since I've (unfortunately) already traded back my Boxster 981 to my dealer, I'm looking at CPO 911's. Slim pickings with asking prices almost over new. And finding any model with a stick becomes almost impossible.

But I did find a 2017 991.2 MT base Targa with very little mileage...and very little options (Sapphire Blue Metallic ). I had never considered a Targa since it's neither a coupe or a convertible. And it's 4WD! Hmm. Not what I was looking for. But beggars can't be choosers, right?

So has anyone ever driven a Targa and can share the experience, good or bad. I would drive it till I get my 992...if no other ships go on fire or sink to the bottom of the ocean.

The people who love Targas absolutely love them . They are my least favorite model in the entire line up . My reasons are as follows :
1) Its neither as coupe nor a Cab (you already stated)
2) The styling is an older design mated to a modern car , Aesthetically its a bizarre mismatch .
3) The roof weights almost 250 pounds ,. Its like having an obese person siting right in the center of mass . It ruins the drive and when tested against every other trim it comes in last in terms of performance.
4) On the GTS they don't even use the same suspension as the coupe or Cab .
5) Its expensive - It costs as much as a base Turbo and I'd take a Turbo all over it !
6) Its rare - Some call it "exclusive" . I call it the unpopular choice . Its rare because most dont want it.
7) Its AWD - On. top of being a bloated cow with its roof that wasn't enough . Porsche added the heavy AWD to the front axle .

The more I wrote the more I dislike it . This is just the short list .

That 2021.Gt silver Cab is still at Ptaff . They have a 991.2 Turbo S right in step with it . You want the Cab same you want a 992 . Thats the car ! Its not your number 1 color or your manual but its there . When I bought my former 2017 GTS I didnt want. a sunroof or power steering plus but I compromised and took it because it was right on the lot . I loved the car ! I even miss the car !
They have had the car all wet since you posted it . Why not negotiate a but and see ? Or try and get a real commitment from your dealership (or other) on a slot ?

CH, I’m not a fan of these either sorry. The roof is just too “clunky” of an operation for me to watch!

For kicks I searched the entire USA . Out of 230 Cabs only 5 were manual . I found a Targa that I know the previous owner at an Independent lot. I saw the car at my detailer and spoke with the owner . Its well cared for . Frankly out of all the used cars I looked at my old car is only one that isn't priced to insanity . Its because of the mileage . My same dealership has a GTS coupe with 36K miles instead of 50K thats one year newer . Its not even optioned as nicely . Its $24K more !!!!!! Unreal !

I think @CH61 dealership really gave him the run around . On top of that he wants a hard to find car . There are even more Targasin the USA than manual Cabs .That might even be part of the issue with his getting a slot . I noticed it even with my dealership . When I was contemplating exterior colors when I trended towards colors that might be hard to sell they subtly hinted but were still ok with it . I wonder had I picked one if they might have worried . If a customer backs out the car has to be easy to sell. I have seen many dealerships get stuck with a car .

A gentian manual cab is more risk than something like a white cab with a black top and PDK to THEM. Thus if they are choosing who gets the slot that slight difference might make the deal .
He should have had at least some reassurance by now of some type of endpoint .

I was just about to write something very similar to this. Funny. And +2 regarding dealer commitment…..

I had to stop laughing before writing back! 🤣Your honesty Larry only equals your savvy! Don't worry, I agree with all your points and the only Targa I'll have is the one I got for Xmas in 1456 LEGO pieces (see pic). My "kids" are now giving me LEGO toys! 😉

That said, I'm just looking for a ride for next summer. Although it's still -12C today in Montreal, spring is just around the corner and the convertible has been my therapy for the last 12 years, much cheaper than a shrink!

So, it's going to be nothing or I'll have to compromise on something. I can't find any 718 GTS 4.0 but my dealer has two 718 Spyders (982) that tempt me but the manual roof mecanism if completely nuts. Too bad cause it checked a lot of boxes: great engine, fun ride, convertible, rare model, proximity with the dealer I know and ease to negociate the trade-in when the allocation comes. But the manual roof is a dealbreaker. I can put the soft top up and down a couple of times a day, often on the go. Too bad!

How do you like my Targa? I'm preparing for retirement. LOL!

Do you know what caught my eye behind that Lego set ? What a beautiful room !!! Everything from the simplicity of the wood table to the design of the window right down to the match of the blinds and curtains . That view of the snow is terrific !! I love it .

Not a fan of the targa. The roof system looks very complicated. The car must be parked in order to open/close it. Some reviewers mention substantial turbulence with roof open and windows closed. If I were you I would be patient and wait for the 992.
This guy mentions the wind noise...among other things. BTW on another video, he admits selling his Targa 4 months after he bouhgt it. Rattling noises from the roof was another issue.

Sometimes I will get a bit of rattle in my soft roof when closed. Not every time and not in the same area. It is a soft roof after all. Lots of moving parts. I think all cars have some rattles. Every car forum has discussions about it. So, expect some rattle from your roof area intermittently.

Thanks Larry! I'll pass your kind words to the Mrs who handles the decorations. 😉 As for the view of the snow, after 3-4 months, we all crave for the color green. Talking about green, maybe I should've bought that 992 S PDK coupe in Lizard green I test drove with the Mrs last year (see pic). Nah!

I saw a lizard green coupe once in Miami . I could not take my eyes off that car . I dont think I could handle that much road attention . Its soooooooo bright !
Does your dealership have any appealing CPO cars ?

Take a look

I was just looking there as well as Prestige . Surprised to see a Carrera T priced equal to a Spyder . If not a daily car that Spyder is intense . Achetez un Porsche 718 Spyder d'occasion ou dans votre Porsche Centre Lauzon

The kicker is the manual Cab 911 . Its not just hard to find . Its near impossible .

Realistically .. I dont feel you would be comfortable in a Spyder outside of a few fun drives .

You are going to have to either tighten a few screws to make a deal happen or make compromises on the used market . Ordering a car is actually somewhat boring compared to shopping used . With ordering you do get to go nuts but end up nearly close to perfect . Its NEVER perfect BTW . With used its like a car hunt . You might find a perfect car but its too far or the wrong color . Then you find a great car but too many miles or an accident history .

Its so expensive and you only have one shot to get it right .

I saw this too . A lot of 4S cars up there I see. Prestige is asking too much $$.

Its the manual thats killing it . Outside of that one black Cab you posted its just unheard of .

Ok @CH61 - I looked in my area !! Champion Porsche is one of the largest volume dealership in the USA . I have no idea about buying a car here if you live there . I imagine @LessKrazy1 knows far more than I do .

However .. its not a manual but look at what I found .. 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cab Pompano Beach FL 36003981

Car fax looks clean . Looks like a two year lease .

They have it CPO and priced 9K over sticker . This is the Spec Sheet WP0CB2A99LS264391 | 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet (992) | VIN Analytics

I'd offer MSRP and see if they bite . Thats if its doable . Like I said I dont know the logistics of a Canadian purchase procedure .

The car was just turned in . They haven't even CPO'd it yet . 2/24 was listed (according to car fax)

PS. If you do come to Florida ., Pompano is an hour away from but I'd be happy to meet you up there after you figure out what you plan to do . If you dont buy it at least you get some warm weather. You can rent a convertible .
