Just saying hello! I was a 996 owner years ago and am getting ready to take the 992 plunge because it just seems so darn good! Working on gathering info and reading the experiences of current owners in order to make the best decision. Currently looking at a good number of LOW mile used options - Thinking I really want to go with the S, possibly the 4S - either with sport / performance package (not exactly sure what the difference is) Anyhow... lots to learn and looking forward to putting a deal together in the next couple of months!

Welcome Hinck! You've come to the right place as there is a lot of knowledge on this forum. Although i am still 3 months or so for mine to arrive, i've learnt lots on the way and you'll get honest opinions for sure but my advice, stick with the features that are important to you as it'll be your car and you'll figure out what fits you the best! Good luck in the search.

Welcome to the Forum @Hincksters! I waited 17 months for my car. If you can find the « perfect »low mile CPO you may avoid a long, exhausting and stressful experience because the Porsche allocation craziness is unreal.

You will have to compromise on something or another (color, trim or some particular option) and probably pay a small markup even if the market is softening a bit (they say). But you will have your dream car with almost no wait time. I’m very happy I finally got the exact build I wanted but that “experience” has left me with some aftertaste.

I wish you good luck finding the 992 that ticks all your boxes soon. But only you know what will make you happy. Why are you considering AWD? Are you planning to drive it in winter?

Happy hunting! 😉

Hey Hinck, good move to the 992! I have the S in a manual and looooooooove it! Like Chas “CH” also built it and waited months for it so best of luck on the hunt and reach out or post questions you may have.

I would start calling dealerships putting my name down on a new car where the deal fell through . The "used" market is just as high and this way you might end up waiting months or even days (you never know). You cant be picky about color or options . The only requirement is the deal has to be at MSRP . No ADM's . Someone will call . It took someone I know a year but he found a GTS . He was not thrilled with the color (jet black) as his first choice was agate but he did get a car.

Excellent advice Larry. With the present economy and potential recession ahead, deals will fall through. That said, @KM992 was offered just about every model except the one he was really looking for. Until he got that C2S coupe allocation out of nowhere. So happy for him. And for @Als992 also who got that T slot.
Canadians have to stick together. LOL!

I’m still puzzled (I’m choosing carefully my word) by Porsche’s allocation process. It’s beyond my understanding.

So true, I still think I was the “greasy” wheel who made the most noise that received my allocation. I was certainly not their best or biggest customer but just enjoyed visiting the dealership and talking about Porsche. I would go visit your favorite or preferred Dealership, shake some hands, bring some donuts once in a while…it worked for me.

You were born under a lucky star Bobby because I honestly think that the allocation process is beyond just deep pockets or even delicious donuts! It's a mystery, a lottery or...a miracle if you believe in divine intervention! :p

Every place creates a different market . In Miami for example there are a lot of heavy hitting buyers . The same is true with California . In the northeast for instance spring is "Cab season" where the prices are more firm and the buyers seek more of them . Some states have only one Porsche dealership . Others are desperate for buyers as regionally they sell very few . My guess is the folks the Pittsburgh saw you as a second time buyer that they liked on the first purchase enough to grant you the slot. Keep in mind that ordering and waiting is like a one year relationship . Both sides have to connect , I have seen many cases where things start out nice and go sour .

The Canadians have. different market altogether . Dealerships cant charge over MSRP but they insert other shenanigans . One guy was told he could not buy the car. He had to lease it even though his deposit was for a purchase . He straightened it out. Look at Carrera Chick and her "3 year wait" . None of the Canadians had a smooth sailing timeline . With the new tax the used market is higher . The Macan buyers don't face as much of this . Its mostly the 911 that has the most headwinds .

Bobby even your deal to upgrade to that GTS Cab was a good deal . They may have even made it even better if you told them "lets not order one. let me buy the one I just drove " . I hear you on wanting that choice. The OP does not get that choice . He is late to the party . He better not suggest to any dealership that he's taking his time . They won't take him seriously . They are fending off customers who have been ready to break down the door for a car.

As for @CH61 and the idea of recession . Porsche never has. recession . Maybe a new buyer will shop an older CPO. Maybe a Ferrari buyer will pass for a 911. Theres always a market even in thee worst of economic times .

I do believe in Divine Intervention since my Father passed and appeared in a dream to tell me to “order the car you will enjoy every mile”…I couldn’t have had a larger sign unless it was Neon on the roof of my home!

Very true about different markets and Dealership practices. In my case I KNEW I was not number one on the list I was at least 5 or 6 but I always stayed in touch and sent them build codes for review. Then when the call came about allocations they only received one and OFFERED it to me. I was blown away and excited to say the least.

To that point Bobby i believe part of it, at least in Canada with no ADM that a lot of it has to do with how much the dealer actually likes you! There is a human element in there for sure. This is my first Porsche and i was offered the first T allocation. Then had a choice to go with my original C2S if I wanted. I had the choice of 2! I'm sure there are many with much deeper pockets than me that are demanding cars to the point of turning off dealers. At some point there is the natural instinct of wanting to deal with people that you like. I'm not saying for all, but some. Also helps as in your case that you had a real interest in the car itself, not just to make money and flip it or send it overseas. And come on, you sealed it with the donuts!

I agree.

The dealership is a business so people with good trades and higher spec cars (more profitable sales) get priority but there's a human element as well. Many people working in the dealership are "car people" and told me they'd prefer to sell to customers that are going to drive and enjoy them.

@Hincksters I was resigned to buying a CPO but decided to make some calls to all of the nearby dealerships (within an 8 hr drive) and I started hearing back from them over the past month with allocations that were available (Turbo, 2 T's, GTS cab etc). I got my chance at a C2S and GTS on the same day! I took the C2S because I prefer that dealership (that human element again).

The market may be different where you are but getting a car to your spec at a lower cost than a CPO makes it worth your time. I think the dealerships get their next round of allocations in +/- May so building a relationship between now and then might help your cause.

Good luck!

No wonder I waited so long, I enjoyed my dealer's coffee and pastries when I should've brought THEM donuts! 😂
You must have gotten your allocation when the dealer accountant realized at this rate they'd lose more on the pastries than they would have made on the sale to you so they cut their losses and found you a car.
