Interesting result.

The Corvette Z06 is a direct rival in a drag race with a turbo S. A regular turbo S goes 10.3 and the Z06 did a 10.5. This young woman named Emilia Hertford broke Chevys, original time and logged a trap speed. She also does a good drag race on her channel with her Ferrari , the Corvette and a Lambo. I know she’s young and talks really fast but she can drive and brings a lot of enthusiasm to these cars. Here she is setting the the quarter mile record . I would still take the Porsche, but with a light weight package that breaks 10 seconds. The fit finish and refinement in the 911 is superior but this Corvette definitely is a serious car.

I think they deliberately rested against a Gt3 because they knew the GT car would lose. Had they picked a lightweight package turbo S it would have beaten the Z06.

The Ducati is distraction nonsense . I don’t mind car versus bike, but not when it’s car versus car versus bike the real contest here with the Corvette and the GT car.

The Corvette is just hard to buy is the 911. The regular C8 is slow. I don’t mean extremely slow, but your Carrera S would beat it. The 06 is a different ball game. I built a car on their configurator like the one Emelia drove with the Z07 package. It’s upwards of $150,000.

I would not want to have to deal with General Motors customer service. I also feel that the reliability will eventually reveal that it’s a Chevy but I do like the car. The idea of a mid engine normally aspirated V8 monster is the car I wish Porsche had built.

I have been following the Z06 . I watched this guy take delivery on his channel. He is another young person with. a massive car collection of exotics and a channel . I do enjoy the enthusiasm of the younger gen talking cars . This car is 10 days old !!! Bam .. he has a problem and he explains why he's really in a pickle .

Another reason to have a manual transmission but I know newer Corvettes don‘t offer them.

Bobby the difference is that some of the young people make the car more like an adventure. Someone like Nick used to do that in his initial videos. Now it’s become where they drive a car that they don’t own for 20 minutes or so, make a video, and give a review. That’s very different than owning the car.

Another point that gravitates me towards watching some of the newer young videos is it they’ll come right out and tell you how they’re making this all happen.

I think the interesting part of the incongruity between the older person doing a Corvette review, and the younger person doing it is the style .

For instance, older people tend to like watching the entire football game. Young people are content with just the highlights. However, with cars it’s just the opposite. The older people doing the reviews are getting a Wham! Bam bye-bye cliff notes. The younger people are taking you through the entire process from the day they bought the car. You’re sitting with them in the show room, watching them on wrap the bubble wrap,

The combination of the two gives me two different perspectives on the same car and I take the best from both.

All the guys I know that drive Vettes are guys that would never, ever think of owning a German built car in the first place "Murica." I think Vettes are awesome for someone else, not me. I don't like the styling and don't fit in them so well (tall). Besides, GM's habit of making a car that is ergonomically stupefying stops me dead in my tracks, ditto Range Rover.

I know how much you guys love Nick! 😜 i was surprised by his good review

I saw the review. He did like the car. It raised a few feathers on rennlist . Apparently, there are a lot of Porsche guys who really feel the Corvette caters to a completely different demographic and they just can’t relate to the car even when GM finally puts out a good one. A few members actually had both.

I was driving before the launch and saw a pre-launch party at the local large Chevy dealership. It was packed with display cars and people everywhere. It was the first time to see the car in person. I pulled in in my modded, 997 turbo and was welcome to very graciously by those who have the Corvette. I talked with them extensively and I felt very much at home. I praised the car and still feel that way. I can certainly understand why someone would buy one. I simply feel the 9/11 suits me better.

In terms of price, the regular Corvette can be bought relatively reasonably. Much like with Porsche you can climb up the ladder and get it to LT or a three LT and there are different performance packages as well as options. it caters to all budgets . On the day, I went a salesman approached me and I asked him how to go about ordering one if I got interested and he said you submit a deposit we put you on a waiting list and it was very similar to Porsche. I am sure they have their preferred customers who have bought cars for years but I don’t think I would be waiting. How do I put a deposit down on that day.

I learned a lot about the car. It was designed by a guy who did a lot of aerospace design . You could tell just by sitting in the cockpit did it’s almost like an aircraft . That center console does create a distance between the driver and passenger. It’s not quite as intimate as a typical two-seater. Here are some pictures from that event a few years ago.

I was never attracted by what I used to call the "Disco Vette" and I don't think it was by snobery or status symbol (well maybe a little) but this post got me reading on the evolution of the different gens of both the 911 and the Corvette. Very interesting. I guess if you are a real car guy why would you want to limit yourself to one type of performance car? Why miss out on very different experiences. You can have a 911, a Corvette and anything else that looks great and goes fast keeping in mind that not all were created with the same thing in mind. Someone could buy German, Italian, American etc and just enjoy.

I was always fascinated by german engeneering and by the 911 in particular, even when it was just a "dream". My personnal experience is very limited but when I got my first Boxster I got really hooked. Eveything seemed just perfect, the mid-engine, the manual transmission and especially the handling and stability of that "lowly" Porsche. My humble Boxster out-handled and out-drove my previous Z4. Period!

As for the looks of the Vette, I will quote Bobby who summed it up: "too many angles and too busy for my taste"

@CH61 I’d like to add to the post above. I also am smitten by the German engineering the refinements in Porsche. I have never seen it any other car. Perhaps with Aston I’ve seen them but the car itself is just not for me. They are handmade. It takes 50 hours to paint in Austin and there’s not a piece of orange peel on it. With Porsche the first thing I noticed in my first 911 was zero Blindspot’s. The fact that Porsche defies physics with a rear engine car is in itself and amazing feet. If you look at the cars of the 1960s, many of them were huge, titanic looking cars with all kinds of wings and angles. He was just a little car ripping around Lemans winning races . Earlier Porsches with its offset pedals five dials , in 1960s looking Dash still have charm. I knew from the first ride as a child that I wanted one.

I would add that the Corvette guys are loyal to the brand maybe even more than Porsche guys….maybe. I owned 2 Corvettes, a 1969 Stingray and a 2003 both manuals both Convertibles. One old one new but never “bonded” with either if that makes sense. Then similar to Prince Charles the Boxster came along and it was a door opened up for me. Couldn’t wait to drive it at every opportunity. Winter was the saddest part when I had to put it to sleep. I would go to the cave to just stare at her. The Corvettes I owned filled a gap although a brief one. Fast forward to this Corvette design and I was like what??? I felt they lost there way. Like I said before, too many angles and my eyes don’t know where to focus. With my 911 my eyes focus on the front the sides and rear and to me all pleasing lines. I’m sure the Vette drives like hell but what good is it to me when I don’t want to even look at it. I need some coffee! Going to start painting trim today, walls may have to wait until I decide on colors. Maybe colors similar to Charles. and while my baby sits out in the rain….ugggg! New cabinet arrives today so I can store tools and remove them from the walls. Good winter project.

I have some passenger time in a Z06 going 10/10’s on some Michigan curves… it’s an incredible machine. Very special.

Z06 VS Turbo S in a straight line is absolutely silly. They compared 2 NA RWD cars at the same price point. Totally fair. The upcoming AWD Corvette will be a fair comparison to the turbo S.

The times are very close. 10.3 versus 10.5 is long been a comparison all the way back to the days of the 997. There Is more wheel spin in the Corvette but that changes when the tires heat up. They’ve also been contests of modded Corvettes versus modded turbos. I have a modded turbo, and the closest race I ever had was a modded Corvette. I also had another close one with a modded GTR.

I dont know if any of you guys looked at the spec of the Z05 . I have.

1) For starters the car comes with Michelin 4S . We get the crappy GY tires . In fact those tires are what ruined the GTS Ring time because the driver was quoted blaming the tires ,. 992 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Review: Near Perfect, So Why Don't I Want One?
From article - Quote -
"Its 7:25.632 Nurburgring lap lags behind the GT3’s 6:59.927, but Lars Kern, who was behind the wheel for both efforts, reckons a more concerted effort with the GTS (including some tweaks and better tyres) would yield a circa-7:10."

2) The Z07 package not only comes with sport cups but everything from the carbon fiber exterior , tweaked suspension and ceramic brakes for under 9K . Thats a lot for not much money.

3) The Carbon. fiber wheels would be 20+K in the aftermarket . It was 10K 15 years ago .

They really made the car affordable . They didnt cut corners on materials..

Of course the big question. is will it work in the long term . GM is notorious for screwing up . It does look like they threw the kitchen sink at this car though .
